The Westchester County Board of Legislators celebrated Jewish American Heritage Month on Monday evening with a ceremony honoring two community leaders: Westchester Jewish Council, a nonprofit that serves the County’s more than 130,000 Jewish residents by connecting hundreds of affiliated organizations, and Suzi Oppenheimer, former State Senator, Mayor of Mamaroneck, and champion for education reform and environmental stewardship.  

The Board of Legislators tonight unanimously passed the Westchester County Lessor Prevailing Wage Act, guaranteeing construction workers on County-leased properties the same standard union wages they would earn on County-owned job sites.

The Westchester County Board of Legislators announced the formation of the Affordability and Economic Development Task Force to address financial pressures facing residents and businesses and strengthen economic opportunity across the County, as federal priorities contribute to growing economic strain.

Westchester County Board of Legislators Chairman Vedat Gashi (D–New Castle, Ossining, Somers, Yorktown) and Legislator Colin D. Smith (D–Cortlandt, Peekskill, Yorktown) presented a $15,450 ceremonial check to My Brother Vinny, Inc. on Tuesday. The Yorktown-based nonprofit organization provides furniture, housewares, and home goods—free of charge—to formerly homeless U.S. veterans in New York State.
